WIT-KoN 2024
Conference of Science Clubs and Active Students WIT-KoN 2024
On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the Conference of Science Clubs and Active Students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications WIT-KoN took place, where the Science Club Solvro was one of the main organizers.
Our Faculty can boast various forms of student activity. In addition to the Faculty Student Council, there are about 20 Science Clubs, each focused on a different area of computer science and telecommunications.
You can develop yourself in, among others:
- mobile and web application programming 📱🌐
- gamedev 🎮🕹️👾
- artificial intelligence and its wide applications 🦾🧠
- cybersecurity 🛡️
- low-level programming, including programming microcontrollers and embedded systems 👨💻👩💻
- computer networks 🖥
- and much more!
During the conference, we had the opportunity to participate in several talks and networking. More can be found below.
Official Opening
Our wonderful conference host Wiktoria Mróz warmly welcomed all the attending students and guests. Among the guests, we could distinguish the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications, Prof. Dr. Eng. Andrzej Kucharski, and the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Eng. Paweł Wachela, university professor. They expressed their admiration for the WIT-KoN conference and hope for future editions.
KN Solvro
As the main organizer of the conference, we presented 3 topics showcasing our activities. KN Solvro is a science club operating since 2018, currently with sections for frontend, backend, mobile, machine learning, UI/UX design, and devops. You can read more about us on this page https://webpage.solvro.pl/
The first topic was Flutter, Dart, and dynamic code generation, or how we write code "from the future," presented by KN Solvro's Vice President, Szymon Kowaliński. He showed us how the mobile section writes applications. More on this can be read in this article.
Next, the frontend lead Bartosz Gotowski explained how we can set up our own Heroku... For free! He introduced us to the options for budget-hosting our applications in times of rising subscriptions and rents. More on this can be read in this article.
Finally, the head of the Machine Learning section, Łukasz Lenkiewicz, introduced NLP, or how chat GPT and other language models work. During the presentation, we learned how the currently popular AI solutions really function under the hood. An article based on his presentation will soon appear on our blog.
TK Games
Another speaker at WIT-KoN was TK Games - a club dedicated to creating computer and board games. During their presentation, they explained how the club currently operates and what projects are being carried out. They also invited us to join their Discord to develop in the gamedev world 🎮
KN Neuron
The conference also welcomed KN Neuron - a club that brings together enthusiasts of neuroinformatics and artificial intelligence who use EEG devices to change the world!
At the WIT-KoN Conference, KN Neuron told us about their projects and demonstrated the equipment they work with. We also learned about reading brain waves 🧠
BioMedical AI
The Science Club BioMedical AI gathers people interested in artificial intelligence - often based on medical issues, although not exclusively. They connect both highly experienced people who even write their own scientific papers and those unaware of AI, for whom BioMedical AI will soon open a pilot course from scratch 👨🏻🏫
During the presentation, BioMedical AI presented two projects in simple terms. The first project was related to "artificial hands." The second was about image augmentation, or can you "teach a computer Photoshop"? 🤖🖼️
WRSS WIT
Student Council of WIT is responsible for organizing cultural events for the Faculty's students. Trips, faculty events, Volvo Wednesday, Intercontinental BaREJS - Rejs W4, Student's Gaming Expo - they do it all! Additionally, they continually provide support to students in need and actively collaborate with Science Clubs. At the WIT-KoN Conference, the Student Council of WIT told us more about the role of the council in student activities and education.
Networking Session
During breaks, we had the opportunity to participate in networking with other conference participants. It was an opportunity to exchange experiences and make valuable connections 🌟
At WIT-KoN, in addition to lectures and networking, a delicious snack was waiting for us.
